Curravagh National School was established in 1933. It has always produced free thinking, entrepreneurial spirits as there is little room for wall flowers with such small classes. Therefore each child has the unique experience of being treated as such, their talents cherished and their confidence blossom.

This year, through our involvement in a cross border initiative, the children attended school, drama and art workshops in Masterson’s N.S, Manorhamilton and hosted the pupils at Curravagh completing a number of cooperative projects.

There is a strong emphasis on drama and performance. The children staged two school productions, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and The Story of Christmas this year. Regardless of religious denomination, they enjoy a performance in the church Christmas Eve where hundreds gather to watch them perform and sing.

Appreciation of Nature is evident as soon as you arrive at the school and across all elements of the curriculum. We are one of the few schools in Cavan to hold five Green Flags having recently completed our Biodiversity Flag Programme. Whenever and wherever possible learning is enjoyed outdoors and the children run a thriving vegetable garden.

The school children trained for and completed a duathalon, and are coached externally in football weekly. Running, cycling and hill walking are also a part of their vast curriculum. They developed a complete history of old cures and traditions associated with the area and are on target to finish their required subject curriculum.

There has rarely been a week where the children simply attend school, it is outward looking, seeking to encourage their curiosity, to nurture and develop each child, through a holistic approach to their learning. Come and meet them on June 23rd.
